Moqadama Headlines Tattersalls Online July Sale at 160,000 Guineas

MOQADAMA, the own-sister to dual Group 1 winner KHAADEM, lead the 109 lots on offer in the Tattersalls Online July Sale when realising 160,000 guineas to Fortune Bloodstock. The sale aggregate was 918,700 guineas making it the second highest grossing sale held to date on the Tattersalls Online platform.

MOQADAMA was offered in foal to US Triple Crown hero AMERICAN PHAROAH and the daughter of DARK ANGEL was also the first lot to be sold on the platform from North America. As well as the dual Royal Ascot winner KHAADEM, the six-year-old mare is an own-sister to the Listed winner LOG OUT ISLAND, runner up in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes and Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes.

Andrea Brereton of Fortune Bloodstock was acting on behalf of a client when purchasing today. Speaking following the sale, she detailed what it was that attracted her client to the mare and future plans for her:

“Obviously the Khaadem update was a huge positive for the family. My client really loves American Pharoah and the opportunity to breed something by him also attracted us. The depth of the mare’s pedigree caught our eye with a predominantly turf pedigree and the plan is to bring her back to the UK to breed from.”

Bidding from home, Brereton reflected on the opportunity to purchase the mare via the Tattersalls Online sale which she saw to be a benefit for both buyer and vendor alike:

“It gives the vendor the chance to really “strike while the iron is hot”. With the update from Khaadem, it was such a fantastic opportunity to put her in an online sale while everyone is still buzzing off his back-to-back Group 1 victories at Royal Ascot. From a purchaser’s point of view, the opportunity to see a mare like this as a standout in the catalogue allows time for that focus. It was an excellent opportunity for the market and brings another dimension to buying top quality thoroughbreds.”

The sale saw buoyant trade at all levels with the second highest priced lot the Richard Hannon consigned wildcard entry SAM HAWKENS who realised 105,000 guineas to Hurworth Bloodstock. The well-bred son of GALILEO is out of the Group 2 runner up PERFECT ANGEL and was a runaway maiden winner at Salisbury over 1m4f in May.

Another lot offered in training to find favour among bidders was GLOR TIRE, the winner of four races since the start of May for trainer Jim Bolger who fetched 82,000 guineas to Transatlantic Thoroughbreds. The daughter of TEOFILO is set to be trained by Jane Chapple-Hyam in Newmarket with the aim of securing blacktype in France for her new connections.

Alongside MOQADAMA, the broodmare section of the sale also saw positive results with the sale of the Blue Diamond Stud consigned STEREO VIEWING for 28,000 guineas to Ramzi Alghul.

The Tattersalls Online July Sale recorded a 65 percent clearance and realised a turnover of 918,700 guineas for 63 lots sold, at an average price of 14,583 guineas. A record number of 325 bidders registered for the sale from over 20 countries including America, Belgium, Britain, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands, Zambia and from throughout the Gulf region.
