Gulf Legend Tops Tattersalls Online August Sale
A lively afternoon of bidding saw lightly raced three-year-old GULF LEGEND top proceedings in the Tattersalls Online August Sale when realising 75,000 guineas to Qatar-based trainer Gassim Ghazali. Consigned by James Ferguson Racing, the son of world-class sire DUBAWI had been placed in three of his five career starts and carried a BHA Rating of 80. The colt is a half-brother to Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris winner FEED THE FLAME and multiple Group 3 winner SACRED LIFE.
A delighted James Ferguson said afterwards: “The Tattersalls Online sales are good for an owner because they don’t have to wait until the July or October sales. It saves a lot on sales costs but it’s also amazing how many people are taking note of them. The two minute extra time rule works great online as it gives people a lot more time to think about it. It’s going from strength to strength.”
Headlining the highly anticipated Gigginstown House Stud Annual Dispersal was Listed winning chaser IDAS BOY who fetched 60,000 guineas when purchased by Tom Malone Bloodstock. The son of DUBAI DESTINATION was a recent winner of the Listed Midlands National Handicap at Kilbeggan last month and was purchased with big aspirations for new connections.
Having purchased for an existing client, Malone commented: “I had an order for a horse who could potentially run in the Aintree Grand National. It’s a dream for his new owner to have a runner in the race and hopefully we’ll be there next April. I did my due diligence, I knew the horse well and Noel Meade was very gracious with his comments on him.”
The Gigginstown House Stud Annual Dispersal saw seven lots sold for an aggregate of 150,500 guineas. Amongst the highlights was Grade 3 winning hurdler FRONTAL ASSAULT who realised 30,000 guineas to agent Dan Astbury as well as Grade 1 winner BEACON EDGE who realised 20,000 guineas to Aidan O’Ryan and Gordon Elliott.
Another notable result was the unraced and unnamed two-year-old consigned by Brian Meehan Racing. By exciting young sire KAMEKO, the gelding is out of Listed winner and multiple Group placed ROHERYN, also the dam of the progressive Group 3 winner MIDDLE EARTH and was knocked down for 41,000 guineas to Joseph O’Brien.
Elsewhere in the sale, all three foals catalogued found buyers including a top price of 11,000 guineas for the Baroda Stud consigned colt by Group 1 winning sire LUCKY VEGA.
The Tattersalls Online August Sale realised a turnover of 667,500 guineas for 90 lots sold, at an average price of 7,417 guineas. A record number of 381 bidders registered for the sale from over 20 countries including America, Belgium, Britain, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Sweden, The Netherlands, Zambia and from throughout the Gulf region.
