Cuban Tiger Roars Ahead in Tattersalls Online November Sale

Listed winning three-year-old CUBAN TIGER topped the Tattersalls Online November Sale when realising 72,000 guineas to Saudi Arabian-based purchaser FMQ Stables.

Consigned by Karl Burke’s Spigot Lodge Stables, the son of HAVANA GREY started the 2024 campaign with success in a novice race at Southwell before improving to win the Listed Burradon Stakes at Newcastle. A string of placed efforts in top handicap races followed over the summer months and the colt was sold with a current Timeform rating of 102.

From a consignment of four horses in the sale, Burke’s stable also supplied the second highest priced lot after the 101 Timeform-rated gelding IMPERIAL SOVEREIGN realised 49,000 guineas to Middleham based trainer Philip Kirby. The son of FRANKEL was an impressive winner on debut late last year and has run with credit when highly tried at three, including in the Group 2 Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot behind subsequent Group 1 St Leger runner up ILLINOIS.

Other highlights of the sale included the Ralph Beckett trained CHELSEA EMBANKMENT who sold for 38,000 guineas to Serbian handler Vladimir Vukojevic. Gowran Park maiden winning filly CANCELLED was sold by Willie McCreery’s Rathbride Stables for 36,000 guineas to Dixon Bloodstock and O’Neill Racing whilst earlier in the sale Neil Mulholland secured debut Bumper winner TILEHURST for 30,000 guineas from Henry Daly Racing.

The Breeding Rights on offer proved popular with the highest price achieved by a Breeding Right to leading first season sire SERGEI PROKOFIEV which realised 31,000 guineas to Heather Raw. The Breeding Right to proven Group 1 sire ARDAD fetched 27,000 guineas to Two Clicks Bloodstock.

Finding favour amongst the broodmares on offer was Listed winner CLEAR WATER who sold for 18,500 guineas to Saudi Arabian based purchaser Nasser Alqahtani. Already the dam of a winner and offered in foal to SERGEI PROKOFIEV, the Houghton Bloodstock consigned daughter of HARD SPUN is a half-sister to Group 2 placed GOLD CITY and is a grand-daughter of the Champion three-year-old filly CRIMPLENE.

The Tattersalls Online November Sale realised a turnover of 602,300 guineas for 77 lots sold, at an average price of 7,822 guineas. Over 330 bidders registered for the sale from over 20 countries including America, Belgium, Britain, France, Ireland, India, Italy, Germany, Serbia, Sweden, The Netherlands, and from throughout the Gulf region.
