Cloth Of Cloud Tops Tattersalls Online December Sale
South African Champion CLOTH OF CLOUD was the highest priced lot of the Tattersalls Online December Sale when realising 180,000 guineas to the bid of bloodstock agent Hubie de Burgh. Headlining the inaugural Southern Hemisphere Session, the highly anticipated collaboration between Tattersalls Online and Inglis Digital, CLOTH OF CLOUD was one of three mares in the session to sell for a six figure sum.
Offered in foal to Champion sire TOO DARN HOT on Southern Hemisphere time, CLOTH OF CLOUD was an outstanding race filly who was unbeaten in three starts as a two-year-old including the Group 3 Pretty Polly Stakes and the time-honoured Group 1 South African Nursery at Turffontein. Consigned by Moulton Stud, CLOTH OF CLOUD is a half-sister to four black type performers including Group 1 winning filly SILVER MOUNTAIN and the mare presented plenty of appeal for purchaser Hubie de Burgh who commented:
“She has been purchased for an existing client who wanted to be part of the Too Darn Hot success story in the Southern Hemisphere. Cloth of Cloud was a very good race filly during her career on the track and Too Darn Hot has been doing an outstanding job with his progeny in Australia. It’s an exciting journey to be embarking on.”
Regarding the Southern Hemisphere Session and the Tattersalls Online platform, de Burgh added:
“The thoroughbred online sales concept has been a huge success in Australia. It is still in its infancy in the Northern Hemisphere but I believe the concept is a vitally important part of the structure of selling thoroughbreds and I am a big supporter of it.”
Also finding favour within the Southern Hemisphere Session was NEWTON’S NIGHT, also in foal on Southern Hemisphere time to TOO DARN HOT, who was purchased by Ridgeport for 150,000 guineas. Consigned by Moulton Stud, the daughter of GALILEO is the dam of this year’s Listed winning and dual Group 3 placed two-year-old TREASURE ISLE and the granddam of 2024 Royal Ascot second SPACE LEGEND.
CRIMSON CORONET was the next highest priced lot when sold to Avenue Bloodstock for 100,000 guineas. Another mare to be offered in foal to TOO DARN HOT on a Southern Hemisphere cover, the New England Stud consigned three-year-old is by Champion Australian sire ZOUSTAR out of the Listed winner and Group 3 placed CRIMSON ROSETTE, a half-sister to Group 1 Ascot Gold Cup winner COURAGE MON AMI.
Leading the way in the horses in training section of the Online December sale was the two-time winning filly TROPICAL ISLAND who sold for 30,000 guineas to Clara Stud. Consigned by Richard Fahey’s Musley Bank Stables, the three-year-old daughter of INNS OF COURT was fourth in the Listed Rockingham Stakes at York and was last seen finishing third in a Class 2 Handicap at Pontefract, earning an official rating of 83.
Another popular lot was the three-year-old gelding POSITIVE ENERGY who was consigned by Willie McCreery’s Rathbride Stables. A winner on his latest start over 1m2f at Navan, the son of MAKE BELIEVE was purchased for 28,000 guineas by Michael O’Callaghan.
Breeding Rights to ARDAD and HARRY ANGEL both found favour with the former being snapped up by Culworth Grounds Farm for 26,000 guineas and the latter knocked down for 22,000 guineas to Cavalier Bloodstock.
