Althania Shines in the Tattersalls October Online Sale
The Tattersalls Online October Sale was topped by blacktype producing mare, ALTHANIA, who sold for 80,000 guineas to the bid of Kevin Blake Bloodstock.
Offered as lot 13, the daughter of STREET CRY, was offered by Gary Duffy’s Irish Emerald Stud in foal to Coolmore Stud’s AUSTRALIA. She is the dam of Listed August Stakes placed MAKSUD and is a half-sister to dual Grade 1 winner GABBY’S GOLDEN GAL and multiple Grade 2 winner ALWAYS A PRINCESS out of the Listed winner GABRIELLINA GIOF.
Following the sale, successful purchaser Kevin Blake was delighted to have secured the mare on behalf of Golden Farm Bloodstock and commented:
“Althania jumped off the page when the catalogue for the sale came out. It isn’t easy to buy proven mares that have produced big results on the racecourse as well as in the sales ring, so I thought she ticked all the right boxes. I have also been been following the progress of her son Maksud all year. He’s a horse I like a lot and think will do even better next year.
She was bought for an investment fund I manage called Golden Farm Bloodstock. We’re looking forward to seeing what she produces by Australia in the spring and to picking her next mate. She is a real outcross, so we will have plenty of options. There is plenty of action in the family, so hopefully she will prove to have been a good investment in the fullness of time.”
Regarding the Tattersalls Online platform, Blake went on to say,
“I find the process very smooth. It is great for the vendors to have regular opportunities to sell quickly and conveniently through the platform. In this particular case, the mare is only based an hour or so up the road from me, so it is quite efficient from a cost point of view for both sides of the deal. The investment group are all delighted and all really enjoyed the process. They were all glued to their computers and got a kick out of the different dynamic of buying this way. Mind, the two-minute wait for the hammer to drop after your final bid can seem like an eternity!”
Irish Emerald Stud also offered the SHAMARDAL mare HOPE LAKE in foal to Rathbarry Stud’s ACCLAMATION as lot 21. After her yearling filly by TEOFILO earned a price tag of 110,000 guineas at Book 1 of the recent Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, she was knocked down to Cavalier Bloodstock for 38,000 guineas.
Following the successful sale of the two mares, Irish Emerald Stud’s Garry Duffy was very pleased with the outcome and committed to donating 1% of the net sale proceeds to the Irish Red Cross in support of the Creeslough Community Support fund, following the recent tragic event in Co. Donegal.
Lot 37, MALBAY MADNESS, topped the horse in training offerings when realising 30,000 guineas to the bid of the Madness In Mind Partnership. The second highest priced horse in training was GLOBE PLAYER, offered by Chris Wall’s Induna Stables as lot 43, who was secured by Michael Kehoe for 21,000 guineas following a bidding duel.
The Tattersalls Online October Sale realised a gross of 269,100 from the sale of 24 lots, with the top price of 80,000 guineas. The sale attracted over 100 registered bidders from throughout Europe as well as Kuwait, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia. Other registered users to feature on the buying sheet include Hurworth Bloodstock, Goliath Bloodstock, and Ramzi Alghul, who was responsible for the purchase of two lots.
